株式会社エニドアはソーシャル翻訳サービス「コニャック」を運営する2009年設立のスタートアップだ。
anydooR Inc. is startup founded in 2009 which runs social translation service, Conyac.
インターネットの普及により世界中からの情報収集、世界中への情報発信が非常に容易になった。今や誰でも簡単に海外のニュースやECにアクセスできるし、海外に向けて日本から情報を発信することもできる。しかし、情報の流通を妨げる壁がまだ存在している。それが「言語の壁」だ。言語の壁があることで、せっかく世界中の情報にアクセスできる環境ができても、それを多くの人が活かせていない。
The Internet lowered the barrier of information flow worldwide. Now anyone with Internet access can read world news and shop online. Or we can send our message from Japan to the whole world easily. However, the barrier still exists: languages. Even with abundant Internet connection, many people cannot communicate as much as they want because they cannot talk each other in the same language.
言語の壁を越えるために一般的に用いられるのは翻訳サービスだ。GoogleやExciteなどの自動翻訳サービスをよく使う人も多いだろう。基本的に無料で手軽に使えるのが良い。しかし精度はイマイチだ。プロの翻訳家による有料の翻訳サービスもある。人が翻訳しているので精度は高い。しかしこれは通常論文やレポートの翻訳に利用するものでコストも時間もかかりすぎる。ハイエンドなサービスなので日常的に気軽に使えるサービスではない。
One way to overcome this problem is to use translation services. Some may use freely available machine translation services like Google or Excite, but their accuracy is not satisfactory. While we can hire professional translators, usually employed for academic papers or reports, it costs too much money and time for casual use.
「コニャック」は翻訳のクラウドソーシングサービスで、ちょうど上記の２サービスの中間に当たる存在だ。ユーザーはサービス利用登録時に「依頼者」か「翻訳者」を選んで登録する。依頼者はポイントを購入して、翻訳して欲しい文章を投稿する。しばらくすると翻訳者として登録しているユーザーが翻訳結果を返信してくれる。翻訳者は報酬としてポイントを獲得できる。依頼を投稿すると5分～10分で翻訳結果が返ってくるという。料金も他のサービスと比較して格段に安い。自動翻訳サービスのように手軽に使えて、かつ人力で翻訳されるので精度も高いのが特長だ。この特長を生かして「コニャック」はECの商品ページの翻訳で個人輸入をしたり、iPhoneアプリの説明文を翻訳してアプリの世界展開を目指す、といった使用法を提案している。
Conyac is a cloud-sourcing translation services, which positions itself between these two options. Each user signs up for the service either as a requestor or as a translation. A requestor buys points and post what they want to be translated. Then translators replay to him or her with translation to earn points. It is said that it only takes 5-10 minutes to get a reply. It is good for casual users with much lower prices than other services, while the quality of translation is high because it is done by humans. It is recommended that people use Conyac to translate online stores for import or to translate documentations of iPhone applications to sell abroad.
翻訳文の質を担保するため、１つの依頼文に対して翻訳文は３つ作成される。その翻訳結果を他の翻訳者が評価することで翻訳者にランクがつく。これにより信頼の置ける、スキルの高い翻訳者が分かるようになっている。依頼者はどの翻訳が一番うまいかは分からないため、この評価システムが翻訳の質を知るために大切な判断材料になっている。
To keep the quality of translation, three different translations must be made for each order and translators evaluate other translators. Each translator is ranked by this evaluation. This ranking system provides an easy way for requestors to find a skilled translator without knowing the language.
現在のところ日本語・英語間の翻訳が多いようだが、中には中国語やフランス語の依頼も見られる。英語からフランス語、という日本語を介さない依頼も中には見られ、グローバルな利用もされているようだ。
現在積極的に資金調達活動を行っているようで、サンフランシスコや香港などの投資家にもアプローチしていると言う。また、海外オフィスの設置も検討しているとのことで、翻訳で言語の壁を無くそうとしているエニドアにとって言語や国境の壁はあまり気にならないようだ。
At this point, most translations are between Japanese and English, but there are some Chinese and French translations as well. Some of them are translation between non-Japanese languages. It seems that the service is globalizing.
They are trying to attract more capital and approaching investors in San Francisco and in Hong Kong. They are also considering setting up an office outside Japan. Language barrier really does not matter for anydooR who is trying to get rid of it.
